Press Release – Art Exhibition Café Zoe
German-American International School Art Exhibit at Café Zoe Builds Community in the Willows
MENLO PARK, CA — March 6, 2013: On display at Café Zoe, a Menalto Corners business in the Willows neighborhood, is an art exhibit by the students of the German-American International School, also located in the Willows. The exhibit features student artwork from kindergarten through grade 8 and runs from February 25 to March 31.
The highlight of the exhibit showcases the artwork of kindergarten students, the culmination of a six-week unit where the students learned about art ranging from early cave art to Monet to Andy Warhol and experimented with different modalities. At the end of the unit, each kindergarten student selected two artists that inspired them, using that inspiration to create their own unique painting.
“This is the fifth year GAIS students have displayed their art at Cafe Zoe. Students truly see themselves as artists when they see their artwork displayed in a public place,” says Maike Silver, GAIS Student Services and Admissions Manager and coordinator for the exhibit, “They develop self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities to create art and in forming partnerships with the community.”
The Kindergarten art, which will be on display from March 11 to 17, includes a special viewing event for family and friends. At the event, the children will enjoy beverages and special treats, provided by Café Zoe.
“The children’s artwork is such a joy visually and we look forward to the energy and excitement it brings to the cafe community,” says Kathleen Daly, Café Zoe owner. “The German-American International School is a vital partner of the Menalto Corners businesses.”
