Elementary School

New Students
GAIS welcomes new students who are able to fit into our bilingual elementary school program at any grade. Typically, non-German speakers will benefit from at least a year in our German-immersion preschool prior to Kindergarten (Vorschule). However, non-German-speaking students can be accepted into Kindergarten. Fluent German speakers are typically able to join at any grade level.
Students are assigned to instructional groups primarily on the basis of age. The school cut-off date is September 1 and students who are five years old by September 1 of the school year they are applying for will be admitted into the Kindergarten (Vorschule) program.
Similarly, students who are six will be admitted to Grade 1. However, factors such as previous records, measured aptitude and achievement, physical and emotional development and other relevant details are also considered. The final decision rests with the Head of School.
