    Holly Pedersen is the Director of the Community Education Center at Parents Place in Palo Alto. Holly’s areas of expertise are childhood abuse and trauma, children’s social skills and relationships, bullying prevention and cyber safety. She has taught family sociology at the University of Southern California. Her other professional experience includes providing child custody mediation for Los Angeles Family Court Services and serving as the executive director of a non-profit agency that provides mental health services to abused and neglected children. 

    Holly developed a comprehensive bullying prevention training program for inner-city schools in Southern California and has provided school-based assessments and counseling to special-needs students for the Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health. She has a PhD in sociology and a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Southern California.

    Heidi Emberling is a parent educator and early childhood specialist at Parents Place in Palo Alto. She teaches parenting classes for families of young children. In recent years, she has focused on positive discipline, toilet learning, sleeping and eating issues, temperament, and peer relationships. She also conducts family consultations and preschool behavioral assessments and runs early childhood staff development workshops.

    A graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, Heidi earned two master’s degrees: one from the University of California, Berkeley, and the other in education—with an emphasis in early childhood education—from San Francisco State University.

    Jed Black, MD is Consulting Professor, Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, and former director of the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Clinical Research Center at Stanford University. Additionally, he works with the pharmaceutical and device industry in central nervous system (CNS) and sleep clinical research and development.

    Dr. Black received his medical residency training, with additional focused training in clinical neurosciences research, at Yale University. Dr. Black completed subsequent postdoctoral training in sleep medicine and clinical sleep research at Stanford University. During his tenure at Stanford, Dr. Black has pursued clinical research interests in the areas of narcolepsy and hypersomnia, conditions of sleep-related breathing disturbance, insomnia, and restless legs syndrome. He has authored numerous abstracts, articles, and book chapters reporting this work.

    At Stanford, Dr. Black leads a clinical research team conducting studies in his areas of interest. At Actelion, he leads the clinical scientific development of hypocretin/orexin antagonists for the treatment of insomnia and consults on clinical development of CNS agents. With others in the pharmaceutical and device industry he consults on sleep-related clinical development projects.

    Anne-Marie Evans has more than 40 years of experience in education, in roles ranging from teacher to school administrator.

    She is the founder of Cascade Canyon School and Lake County International Charter School, both in California, and she has been a Primary Years Programme (PYP) site visitor and consultant, PYP workshop leader, and professional development manager and curriculum developer for IB service projects in Sri Lanka.

    She currently resides in California and consults with schools and practitioners around the world.
